This contest as always held on the first Saturday following the Labor Day holiday. \nThe OSPOTA contest was conceived with three main goals in mind:\n1. To promote camaraderie within the ranks of Ohio’s Amateur Radio Operators \nYour participation has allowed these goals to be achieved. We agree it is a lot of fun to get out in a natural setting with your radio and see how well you can do at working operators in the beautiful Ohio State Parks. \nThe contest hours will be from 1400 UTC to 2200 UTC (10 am to 6 pm ET). \nThe contest committee has been busy going over the rules and information about the contest\, please check for any changes in the rules \nPlease be aware only Electronic (Cabrillo files) will be accepted for entries. No text\, pdf\, csv\, adif\, bin\, photos of logs\, paper\, etc. Comparing contest logs is being changed and we need your log file in standard Cabrillo format. \n\nWe hope this year’s OSPOTA is bigger and better. \nAt this point\, there will be 75 Ohio State Parks open for 2023. (ODNR reports there will be a new State Park opening in 2023\, but per our rules\, it will not be considered as an active park until the following full year – 2024). \nAs in the past – you can let us know which State Park you plan on activating and we’ll keep everyone informed. SUMMARY:Is This Thing On? Using Backup Communications Systems To Ensure Mission Readiness
DESCRIPTION:Maintaining emergency communications capabilities before\, during\, and after emergencies is critical for sharing life-saving information. Organizations across the Emergency Communications Ecosystem must plan for multiple backup communications capabilities to ensure their mission can still be accomplished if primary systems are lost or degraded. To achieve this level of preparedness\, public safety organizations need to collaborate with other partners to plan for and establish redundancies\, as well as routinely assess the readiness of their primary\, secondary\, and backup communications capabilities. However\, the SAFECOM Nationwide Survey (SNS) found that most public safety organizations are not properly testing their backup communications systems. For out-of-the ordinary situations when multiple organizations and agencies are involved and backup systems are most likely to be needed\, just 26% of organizations test their backup voice and only 15% test their backup data.\n\n\n\n\n\nDuring this webinar\, participants will hear from the Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission Regional Planning Committee 20\, Mr. Charles Bryson\, about real-world examples showcasing collaborative planning approaches and best practices for establishing and testing interoperable backup capabilities. In addition\, we will review recommendations in the National Emergency Communications Plan (NECP) for achieving and maintaining resilient backup systems and provide access to resources that ensure backup system readiness. \nJoin the webinar to learn about: \n\nKey gaps on the readiness of backup communications identified in the SNS\nLeveraging the NECP to implement planning\, collaboration\, and testing best practices to improve resiliency of backup systems\nResources that exist to develop\, deploy\, and test interoperable backup communications capabilities\n\nWebinar Access\n\nClick the link below to access the webinar.
